Many factors are forcing this reassessment: changes in family structure and the equal opportunity debate; the restructuring of the labour market and diminishing opportunities for men within it; changes in women's lives, education levels and labour force participation; concerns about morality, criminality and education; and last, but not least, the "new genetics" which have transformed the very essence of fatherhood - from social accident to biological certainty.
